Work That Really Counts
March 10th, 2010 by ComputerBob
Those who know me, know that I’m not rich.
And I have no interest in being rich.
That’s one reason why I’m very happily spending my life doing things that help other people, instead of doing things that would earn me a lot of money.
If you’re like me, and could use a little extra cash, then I encourage you to consider becoming a temporary, part-time worker for the 2010 U.S. Census effort.
Even though all U.S. residents are required by law to complete and return their Census forms, historically, all over the U.S., millions of people fail to do it. The percentages vary, but in my county, 40% of the residents don’t return their Census forms.
That means that the U.S. government has to hire a lot of temporary, part-time workers to go door-to-door, to collect the required information from the non-respondents.
If you’re not willing or able to go door-to-door, the Census also has a few office jobs for workers who have experience with personal computers.
You can learn all of the details on the 2010 Census Jobs Web site.
If you decide to apply, do yourself a favor and take the practice test that they provide online — its questions are very similar to the real pre-employment test that potential employees are required to take.
After taking the practice test last week, I took the real test yesterday afternoon, and got a perfect score.
I’m hoping to get one of those office jobs.
Update, April 1, 2010: I just finished my telephone interview, and I got the office job. I will start work on April 12.
