Work That Really Counts 4

May 11th, 2010 by ComputerBob

It’s official.

Yesterday afternoon, my new boss called to officially offer me the position that I described to you several days ago.

Of course I accepted it.

Regular readers of this Journal know that she had called twelve days ago to tell me that I was their top candidate for the position, but that I would have to pass a background check before she could officially offer it to me.

So, twelve nights ago, I submitted my personal details and permission to the nationwide security company that does all of my new employer’s background checks.

And then I waited.

And waited.

And waited some more.

When my new boss called me yesterday afternoon, she explained why it had taken so long. The security company finally contacted her this past Friday afternoon, to tell her that it been unable able to confirm my education.

I had clearly stated in the personal details that I had submitted to that company that I had earned all of my education under my birth name, not my current name. Luckily for me, my new boss was bright enough to realize that the security company had made the mistake of searching for my educational records under my current name.

So she asked them to redo my background check, using my birth name.

And of course, once they did that, they quickly confirmed my undergraduate, graduate and doctoral work.

So I’ll be starting work this coming Friday.

My new boss told me that they’re really looking forward to working with me.

And I feel exactly the same way.

Hallelujah!
