Windows Worm Infects Millions

Wow, how many times over the years have we all seen that same headline?
Regular readers of this Journal know that I’ve been using Linux full-time instead of Windows since July, 2006. When I was starting out, I used Kubuntu Linux for about a month, then Mepis Linux for more than a year, and I’ve been using Debian Linux for more than the past year.
Linux has become an old friend that I can trust to always boot up, always be free from all forms of malware, and always give me complete control over what I want to do with my PC. I’ve said it many times before — with Linux, I feel like my PC is really my PC.
On the other hand, whenever I use Windows, its closed-source and by-design restrictions on every user’s freedoms make me feel like I’m using someone else’s PC without their permission.
In short, the more I use Linux, the less I trust Windows. My PC has never had a virus or any other type of malware in Linux, even though the only security software that I’ve ever run is the built-in Linux firewall. In contrast, I hold my breath every time I boot up Windows on my own PC or someone else’s, to help them with a problem that they’ve run into. I never know for sure if Windows is going to completely boot up or not, or if one or more of its many built-in user-restriction systems or required 3rd-party, duct-taped security systems is going to throw up an obscure error message that will take me hours to decipher and fix.
For the record, I’m really, really, really glad that I use Linux full-time instead of Windows.
If you’re still using Windows, you’re about to experience déjà vu: Windows Worm Infects Millions.
