Windows 7 Pros & Cons
October 22nd, 2009 by ComputerBob
Today, Microsoft Windows 7 is officially released to the public.
The Windows Secrets Newsletter has a whole bunch of reasons why you should switch to Windows 7.
And a couple of reasons why you shouldn’t.
Of course, the main reasons why you shouldn’t switch to Windows 7 are:
- It’s Windows
- You don’t really need a newer version of Windows
- You’re going to have to pay for the privilege of going through the pain of installing Windows 7
- Unless your PC is relatively new, you’re going to spend at least a couple of hundred dollars upgrading it (AGAIN!) so that it can run this latest version of Windows — Does that sound familiar?
- Are you sure you want to fall for the same hype about Windows 7 that you fell for with every single previous version of Windows?
- Aren’t you getting tired of having to pay for new versions of Windows that are little more than service packs, trying to patch the problems that you already paid for in your earlier Windows versions?
- Don’t forget — it’s Windows
Regular readers of the Journal know that I’ve been using PCs since 1979, and I used Windows and provided Windows tech support ever since the mid-1980s.
But I switched from using Windows to using Linux full-time in 2006.
And even the latest Testing version of Debian Linux runs really fast on my 7-year-old home-built PC.
Days like today remind me just how happy I am to be totally Windows-free.
UPDATE: Many thanks to regular Journal reader, malspa, who sent me a link to ExtremeTech’s 7 Reasons to Get Windows 7 Today (and 6 Reasons Not to). Check out those prices. I agree with malspa, who said, “Ouch!”
