Windows 7 - Fully Tested?

February 1st, 2009 by ComputerBob

Anyone who’s familiar with the normal procedures involved with software development expects any new software to go through several alpha, beta and release candidate testing stages.

Each of those stages plays a specific role in helping identify bugs as well as necessary features, and gives the developers and coders user feedback to allow them “clean up” the software before its final release to the general public. Since software development is an iterative process, no one can predict exactly how many betas and release candidates will be required before the software is finally ready to be released.

That’s why many people find it very odd that Windows 7, the much-anticipated Windows Vista replacement that will be vitally important to Microsoft’s future, had only one beta release, and a Microsoft official has already confirmed that it’s going to have only one release candidate as well.

Is Redmond making the mistake of rushing Windows 7 out the door without fully testing it?

As always, Slashdot’s readers have a lot to say about what they think is going on.
