Why Windows Security Is Awful

August 26th, 2009 by ComputerBob

Former Windows users-turned-Linux-users understand it — LInux is inherently much, much more secure than Windows has ever been.

But Windows apologists continue to ignorantly claim that the only reason that Linux isn’t attacked is because fewer people use Linux than Windows. They argue that if Linux was “as big a target” as Windows, then everyone would see that Linux is just as insecure as Windows.

They’re wrong, of course. Anyone who uses that argument is choosing to ignore the fact that Linux is already “a huge target.” A very large and growing percentage of the world’s most important corporate web sites, ecommerce sites and ISPs run Linux, along with the governments of entire countries.

But, to set the record straight, there’s a very basic reason why Linux is more secure than Windows.

Linux was built from the ground-up to function securely within the rigors of a shared, multiuser, networked environment.

And Windows wasn’t.
