When Nobody Is Watching

Anyone who has read some of my articles in this web site’s Domestic Violence Information section knows that I grew up in almost constant fear of my father.
He was a trusted leader in our church.
Every time we went out in public, and every time friends or relatives came to visit, he acted like the loving father on “The Brady Bunch.”
So no one suspected how he acted toward us when nobody was watching.
And no one would have believed us if we had told them.
Even decades later, when the truth finally came out, almost everyone who heard it denied that it could possibly be true because, “He’s such a nice guy!”
Unfortunately, that’s typical behavior for domestic violence perpetrators.
But now, Amnesty International is using a unique billboard to educate the public about domestic violence.
