When A Man Loves A Woman
July 4th, 2010 by ComputerBob
Regular readers of this Journal know that my wife and I have been married more than twice as long as either one of us had been alive before we met.
That’s a lot of being together, and a tremendous amount of love going back and forth.
When you love someone that much, and spend that much time with them, you eventually learn what they’re probably going to say and how they’re probably going to react to many different circumstances.
My wife’s father, the son of missionaries, grew up in the lush and dangerous jungles of Mato Grosso, Brazil. So he’s always seen that country, and everything it does, through rose colored glasses. He’s also been been a lifelong fan of the Brazilian soccer team since its early PelĂ© days.
And, since my wife is a big fan of her father, she also chose to root for the Brazilian soccer team.
That’s why, a couple of days ago, when I saw in an online news story saying that Brazil had been eliminated from the 2010 World Cup by a 2-1 loss to the Netherlands, I printed it for my wife to read.
When I handed it to her, she skimmed the headline and then quietly and sadly said, “Ohhh… Brazil.”
I reached over and turned the page over.
On the back, I had written, “When I hand this to you, you’re going to say, ‘Ohhh… Brazil.’”
