What’s The Deal With Chrome? 2

September 16th, 2009 by ComputerBob

Yesterday, I linked you to a comic that explains some of the good ideas that Google has brought to life in its Chrome browser.

Apparently, right after I wrote yesterday’s post, Google released Chrome Version 3 for Windows, which is reportedly faster than its predecessor and also boasts a few other improvements.

But Chrome still doesn’t have the add-ons that so many of us have come to rely on in Mozilla’s Firefox browser.

And it reportedly automatically adds a Google repository to Linux users’ systems, in a non-standard location, separate from all of their other, easily removed repositories.

Plus, careful readers may find other reasons to feel uncomfortable in the Google Chrome Privacy Notice. Like the fact that Mac and Linux users can’t stop Chrome from sending cookies back to Google and to other Web sites.

In an email message to me, one of this Journal’s regular readers described Google’s behavior as “creepy.”

What do you think?

By the way, does anyone else look at the Google Chrome logo and think of Simon, the memory game?
