Ubuntu For Non-Linux Geeks
January 25th, 2009 by ComputerBob
Nearly all of the “first look” reviews of Linux that I see are written by Windows users. Many of those users claim to have advanced computing skills.
Apparently, the fact that they supposedly know a lot about computers is supposed to lend credibility to their opinion of Linux, whether it’s positive or negative.
But I’m often skeptical about their claims of technical expertise, especially when they describe the steps that they took — or didn’t take — while trying to troubleshoot the inevitable problems that come up whenever someone tries to install and use a completely different operating system than the one that they’re used to using.
That’s one of the reasons that I enjoyed reading Keith Tokash and Ubuntu — to me, the guy’s experience sounds credible.
And, as can be expected, Slashdot’s readers have a lot to say about his article.
