This Computer Is Never Obsolete

September 2nd, 2009 by ComputerBob

Sometimes, it seems like — as intelligent as they are — computer geniuses are missing a whole lot of common sense.

LIke the IBM executive in the 1950’s (or was it the 60s?), who predicted that there would be a worldwide need for 3 mainframe computers the following year.

Or the DEC executive in the late 1970s, who reportedly said something like “There will never be any reason for anyone to have a computer in their home.”

Of course, when you’re in the land of quotes, you have to figure out which ones were actually said, and which ones are urban legends.

One infamous computer-geek quote, has for years apparently been falsely attributed to Bill Gates: “640K of memory should be enough for anybody.”

But here’s a photo of an old eMachines PC, with a sticker on it that claims “This computer is never obsolete.”

For a good laugh, take a look at its specs.
