The Illusion Of Choice

September 12th, 2009 by ComputerBob

If you live in the U.S., then you’re used to having only two choices in nearly every winner-take-all political election.

Oh, sure, every once in awhile you have a third choice, but that third candidate always seems to exist only to drain votes away from one of the two “real” candidates,” and never has any realistic chance of getting elected, except in Minnesota, where the sheeple will vote for any nut who promises to take care of them.

There’s an old saying that your candidate will never be as good as you hoped they would be, and the opposition candidate will never be as bad as you feared they would be.

I think that’s probably true, but to me, that’s just another way of saying “Meet the new boss — same as the old boss.”

I find that the older I get, the more skeptical I am of both sides of every debate, and the more I come to believe that all political activity is simply an illusion of choice.
