Ten Geeky Gadgets

Happy Valentine’s Day!
I hope that, if you want one, you have someone in your life with whom you can share romantic feelings today. And every other day of the year, too — not just today.
Yesterday, I heard on the radio that it is expected that people will spend an average of about $117 apiece today, to express their love for their significant others (or those whom they hope will become significant others). That’s down about 20% from what people spent on average last year.
Really? On average, each couple is actually spending almost $250 today? I find that very hard to believe. I’m guessing that figure is probably inflated by the fact that thousands of people propose marriage to their partners on this day every year — so I bet a lot of them end up spending a couple of hundred dollars for a romantic proposal dinner and thousands of dollars on a diamond engagement ring. Without those big spenders, the average would probably be pretty close to about $15 per person — the cost of a heart-shaped box of candy and a Valentine’s Day card.
My wife and I stopped spending money on each other on Valentine’s Day several years ago. Of course, we acknowledge Valentine’s Day, but we prefer to surprise each other with gifts, notes, cards, special favors and other expressions of love throughout the year, whenever we feel like it.
But if you’re inclined to spend some cash today, you may want to consider Ten Geeky Gadgets for Your Valentine.
Personally, I wouldn’t have any use for any of them, even if I were looking for a romantic gift.
Am I just too “out of it” or do you also find those things unappealing (and unromantic)?
