Saturday, January 28th, 2012

The 2012 Super Bowl will take place one week from tomorrow night.

Every year, millions of people watch it.

But I’m not one of those people.

I never watch the Super Bowl.

In fact, I never [more...]

Predicting Life 100 Years From Now

Monday, January 16th, 2012

Almost 26 years ago, in a research paper that I wrote about the future of education, I predicted that, in the future, people would connect computers to their brains.

One result would be quantum leaps in many fields, including education, entertainment, medicine, philosophy, arts, psychology and interpersonal communictions.

Regular readers know that, a couple of years ago, researchers finally [more...]

A Dash Of Sanity?

Friday, January 13th, 2012

A few years ago, they were the unknown owners of a tiny boutique, selling snooty, overpriced fashion to snooty, overpaying customers.

Then one of them “accidentaly” released a sex tape.

And, all of a sudden, they became “a brand.”

Remembering Dreams

Wednesday, January 11th, 2012

I used to keep a light-up pen on my bedside table, so that if I woke up from a dream that gave me an idea for a story or a song — or just a cool idea about life — I could immediately write it down.

I’ve had a lot of those types of dreams.

But I think I only had the presence of mind to write something down once.

The Cost To Wag The Dog

Wednesday, January 4th, 2012

How much does it cost to go to the movies these days?

In fact, the last time we went to a movie theater, it cost [more...]

Put On Your Poker Face

Friday, December 30th, 2011

We’ve all seen it — in movies and in television programs.

The main character — who has apparently never played poker before in his life — somehow finds himself — it’s always a man — playing in a high-stakes poker game.

And promptly loses all of his money, along with his car, his home, his wife’s fur coat, and his childrens’ college fund.

In steps a good friend who enters the game with $5 and quickly [more...]

What’dya Get For Christmas?

Sunday, December 25th, 2011

When I was a kid, that’s what all of my friends would ask after Christmas every year.

Then we’d all describe the coolest new toys we had received.

And ridicule the relatives who had cluelessly given us clothing or pajamas.

When I became an adult, important Christmas activities quickly evolved from “What’dya get?” to “What’dya give?”

That’s when I learned [more...]

Training Video?

Thursday, December 22nd, 2011

Many years ago, one of my two doctoral programs was in the field of Training and Development.

Analyze, Design, Develop, Implement, Evaluate.

Shampoo, rinse, repeat — it’s an iterative process.

Over the years, I’ve trained one CEO, university faculty and administrators up to and including vice-presidents, corporate employees at every level, [more...]
