Some Like It Reliable 2
January 16th, 2009 by ComputerBob
This is another one of my many do-it-yourself adventures.
About 6:30 last night, UPS delivered my PC’s new power supply. I was very relieved to see it, considering how badly UPS had messed up the delivery of my new DVD burner a couple of months ago. Nearly a week after I had ordered it, the UPS package-tracking site said that it had been delivered to me, but I knew that it hadn’t — in fact, I had been home all day, waiting for it, so I knew that the UPS truck hadn’t even driven down my street all day.
Over the next 3 days, I had to make several frustrating phone calls before I finally convinced UPS that their driver must have delivered my package to someone else’s house. The UPS customer service people kept robotically insisting, “But our computer says that it was left at your front door” and I had to keep humanly insisting that no matter what their computer said, I knew that their driver had not brought my package to my house.
Six days after its original “delivery date,” and almost 2 weeks after I had ordered it, UPS finally delivered that DVD burner to me. Apparently, on my repeated insistence, their driver had finally gone back to wherever they had originally delivered it and retrieved it so that they could deliver it to me.
No note. No phone call. No apology. No acceptance of responsibility or admittance of guilt.
And absolutely no satisfaction.
So anyway, that’s why I was really relieved when UPS correctly delivered my new power supply last night.
I unpacked it and it looks really good, but I’m way too busy to install it until this coming weekend.
I’ll let you know how it goes. Stay tuned.
