Shocking New Products

As a law-abiding citizen, I’m glad that law-enforcement personnel have the tools and weapons that they require to control the bad guys.
But, in the old days, officers used billy clubs and other handheld weapons to personally subdue cantankerous criminal suspects — up close and personal.
In contrast, nowadays, many officers use more impersonal devices like Tasers and rubber bullets, that can be fired from a distance.
Some people argue that that distance makes law-enforcement officers more impersonal — more likely to use unnecessary force on disagreeable people instead of trying to reason with them.
And now, new devices, including Taser’s Shockwave, can decapacitate several people at the same time, from even further distances.
Is law enforcement from a distance a slippery slope? See the thoughtful comments after the story for some readers’ opinions.
