Shining A Light On Diabetes
August 10th, 2010 by ComputerBob
Regular readers of this Journal know that, at one time, I had to meticulously measure my blood glucose level and give myself insulin injections several times every day.
Though I had always been needle-phobic — throwing up and/or passing out every time I was ever given a shot or a blood test — I knew I didn’t want to have to go through that several times every day, so I chose to force myself to get used to my self-administered injections.
But I never got used to having to painfully poke one of my fingertips to get a big drop of blood to put onto the test strip every time I checked my blood glucose level.
I feel very blessed and happy that my health quickly improved to the point where I only had to do those things for a couple of months.
I really feel sorry for the millions of people who have had to do them their whole lives.
But now there’s hope for a better future: “…researchers at MIT’s Spectroscopy Laboratory are working on a noninvasive way to measure blood glucose levels using light.”
