Anyone who knows much of anything about Linux knows that there are hundreds of different Linux distros. Each distro takes either a stock or modified Linux kernel and combines it with the distro creators’ choice of installation program, services, applications, utilities, GUI, etc. There are many, many general-purpose Linux distros that work well on desktop computers, as well as many, many other Linux distros that specialize in filling just one or two purposes, like being a web server, being a firewall or running a professional multimedia-editing suite.
Whether you’ve been thinking of trying Linux, or you’re already a seasoned Linux veteran, if you’ve ever wondered which of the hundreds of Linux distros has had the biggest influence on the whole Linux movement, you’re going to want to read Seven Most Influential GNU/Linux Distributions.
