Portions + Harassing Pizza

Man One: “Boy, the food at this place is really terrible.”
Man Two: “Yeah, I know; and such small portions.”
Lots of people remember that joke from Woody Allen’s 1977 film, Annie Hall. But it was originally published during World War II.
But as old as it is, it brings up an interesting dichotomy: even when the food is no good, we expect to be served a lot of it.
In fact, “normal” portion sizes for many popular foods have gotten much bigger over the years. Even if it’s bad for us, we eat a lot of it. That fact — combined with the childhood admonition to “eat everything on your plate” — has made it much harder for most people to attain and maintain a healthy body weight.
And if that’s not enough to worry about, a man recently called the police to report a slice of pepperoni pizza that had been “left near a fence with the intent to harass.”
There’s nothing quite so sad as a slice of pizza gone bad.
