Oooooh — Scary!

Nowadays, kids carve halloween pumpkins with plastic serated tools that have rounded corners — or their families don’t even carve pumpkins at all, but display plastic or realistic-looking, foam-rubber ones instead.
When I was a kid, we used to carve our Halloween pumpkins with real knives — long, pointy, really sharp knives that often slipped and cut things (on the pumpkin) that we hadn’t intended to cut. Oooooh — scary!
And the morning after Halloween, we’d usually find our carefully carved pumpkins smashed onto our front porch and sidewalk — undoubtedly the work of marauding bands of deadly criminals. Oooooh — scary!
One year, as a teenager with enough electrical knowledge to be dangerous, my older brother wrapped strips of aluminum foil around his pumpkin and connected them to a hidden capacitor that was powered by a car battery charger, in the hope that anyone who grabbed that gourd would get a 20,000-volt surprise. Oooooh — scary!
But maybe the most horrible pumpkin of all would be one that has your own face carved into it. Oooooh - scary!
