Neither Snow Nor Rain…
June 21st, 2009 by ComputerBob
Some of us are old enough to remember when you could buy a candy bar for a dime, buy a gallon of gasoline for 29 cents, or send a “How-are-you-I-am-fine” letter to your Grandma by first-class mail for 6 cents.
Yeah, I know — I’m old.
But I have a youthful look that makes most people think I’m about 20 years younger than I am.
So only my doctor knows for sure.
We old people remember that one of the things that they taught us in school was the U.S. Postal Service’s motto: “Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds.”
It sounds really noble.
But, unfortunately, it’s apparently not their motto after all.
Nowadays, it’s going to cost you almost half of that birthday dollar that Grandma sends you every year, just to send her a thank-you note — and it will take longer to get there than it did when I was a kid.
But the mail service is even worse in the U.K., where your mail delivery can be terminated by the actions of your kitten.
