My Survivors Section Is Back
July 6th, 2009 by ComputerBob
A little over a year ago, I created a new Survivors Forums section for this web site. The purpose of it was to give people who have survived various hard times and traumas a place to share their stories, to bless, empower and inspire others.
Unfortunately, it took me several days to tweak hundreds of things in the forum software’s underlying PHP, HTML and CSS coding, to get my Survivors Forums to use the same custom theme and layout that I first created for the rest of this web site several years ago.
But once I finished tweaking, my forums looked great and worked well. Not many people posted stories, but the few stories that were there got thousands of visits in just a few months.
Until a few months ago, when I upgraded the forum software to a newer, more secure version. That upgrade overwrote nearly all my coding tweaks, which made my Survivors Forums almost completely unreadable.
Over the next several weeks, I spent many hours trying to figure out how to recreate my original coding tweaks in the new version of the forum software, but that task was way too complicated — I just couldn’t do it.
So I had to shut down my Survivors Forums.
But yesterday, I had an idea for how to resurrect the stories from those forums.
I manually crawled through the old Survivor Forums database and copied the stories. Then I created a new, separate article for each story and created a new Survivors section to display them. You can find a link to that new section in the left navigation column that appears on every page of this web site.
If you have a survivor story that would bless, empower and inspire others, please contact me so that I can add your story to this site’s new Survivors section.
