Most Dial-Up Internet Users Don’t Want Broadband

July 3rd, 2008 by ComputerBob

I can understand their thinking, because until a couple of years ago, I created and maintained this entire web site and my other sites completely through a $10 per month dial-up Internet connection. Even though I was offered a free 6-month broadband trial a few times, I turned it down, because I knew that if I tried it, I would be “hooked,” and I couldn’t justify spending $40 per month or more for what was then the cheapest broadband access.

A couple of years ago, I finally switched when Verizon offered me 768 bps DSL for only $15 per month. At that point, it was finally worth it to me to graduate to about 19X my dial-up speed for only an additional $5 per month.

A lot of current dial-up users feel exactly that same way.
