Microsoft Chutzpah

March 4th, 2010 by ComputerBob

Chutzpah: n. (Slang) — 1892, from Yiddish khutspe “impudence, gall” from Heb. hutspah. The classic definition is that given by Leo Rosten: “that quality enshrined in a man who, having killed his mother and father, throws himself on the mercy of the court because he is an orphan.”

You would be hard-pressed to find a corporation that demonstrates as much chutzpah as Microsoft.

In a cynical attempt to spin the fact that its operating systems are metaphorical swiss cheeses, riddled with countless serious security vulnerabilities that constantly cause wildly expensive virus, spam, spyware, phishing, botnet, and other problems for the entire computing world, “A top Microsoft executive on Tuesday suggested a broad Internet tax to help defray the costs associated with computer security breaches and vast Internet attacks, according to reports.”

Judging by the readers’ comments at the end of that story, as well as on several other sites that have reported the same story, most readers understand that Microsoft itself created the problem that it now wants everyone to be taxed to try to solve.

I have a better idea.

An idea that would completely cut off the head of the problem and save the world untold billions of dollars every year.

Make it a crime to use Microsoft Windows on any computer that connects to the Internet.
