Max Goes To The Gulf
September 2nd, 2008 by ComputerBob
Yesterday, for the first time ever, my wife and I took Max with us when we visited the warm and beautiful Gulf of Mexico, about 15 minutes from home. He loves going for “a ride in the car,” because it usually means that he’s going to the vet’s office, where everybody loves him and they give him lots of attention.
Yesterday’s ride was long enough that our little love sponge got to alternate between laying on my wife’s lap, looking out the windshield and the passenger-side window, laying on the inside edge of my seat between us, and sitting on my left thigh, looking out the windshield and the driver’s-side window.
We knew that he wouldn’t be allowed on the beaches, so my wife took a couple of photos of me holding him up in front of a sign that said so on the edge of a beach, with the waves and sunbathers behind us. And Max was very happy to see and smell the Gulf waters about 50 yards away for the first time in his life.
Then we drove several more miles, to a very scenic fishing pier in a village on one of the barrier islands. There, Max got to explore the water and the pier from his up-close-and-personal perspective. Of course, he found several spots that made him want to roll around on the wooden pier, probably to pick up the alluring scent of dead fish.
He does the same thing if I drop one of my used T-shirts on the floor. Insert your own lame joke here.
