Locked Out Of My House
July 2nd, 2009 by ComputerBob
After enduring about 3 years of drought, this part of The Sunshine State has currently been experiencing several days and nights of severe thunderstorms with long torrential downpours. Everything that had been brown or yellow is now green. It’s beautiful, but as a result of all the rains, many areas are flooded, and it’s been a week or so since we’ve seen the sun.
Another downside has been the tremendous number of lightning strikes. A few days ago, one storm that lasted just a few hours delivered more than 2,000 lightning strikes to this county.
The storms and lightning have also had a direct effect on me. My DSL Internet connection has been down for the past 27 hours, ever since 8:00 AM on July 1st.
So I’m writing this Journal entry from an undisclosed location.
I was online when 2 of my DSL modem’s lights went out and a third one began flashing. After checking all of my connections, I picked up my landline telephone and immediately heard lots of scratching sounds. So I picked up my cell phone and reported the problem to Verizon right away. A very nice technician electronically checked my telephone line while we talked, and determined that there is definitely something wrong with it.
It sure feels weird to suddenly not have any Internet, email, or access to my Journal or web sites from home. It’s like I’ve been locked out of my house.
But not to worry: Verizon absolutely, positively guarantees that they will fix the problem – by July 8th.
