Lenovo Notebooks Gain Security
November 26th, 2008 by ComputerBob
It won’t stop someone from stealing your notebook PC, but Lenovo will be offering a new security feature next year that could prevent a thief from accessing the important data that’s on your notebook.
Lenovo’s Constant Secure Remote Disable feature “will allow users to disable their laptop by simply sending a text message through a cell phone.”
Then, if the notebook is recovered at a later time, a password can be entered that will “unlock” it and make it functional again.
While CSRD’s technical requirements and limitations may prevent it from being a perfect solution for everyone, it might be a worthwhile idea for government and corporate use, where the loss of a notebook PC could jeopardize the safety of important or confidential data.
