Installing Linux - Child’s Play?
November 28th, 2009 by ComputerBob
If you’d like to give up the confines of Windows for the freedom, power and security of Linux, but you’re worried that you won’t be smart enough to install Linux, then this story is for you.
Back in 2002, when I first started trying to install and use Linux, I ran into all kinds of problems. In fact, every Linux distro that I tried had at least one “show-stopper.” I finally gave up — temporarily — and waited for Linux’s ease of installation and use to intersect with my level of knowledge, skills and abilities.
Regular readers of this Journal know that that intersection finally occurred in July, 2006, when I finally began to use Linux full-time instead of Windows.
Since then, many of the most popular Linux distros’ installations have gotten even more user-friendly.
How friendly?
Friendly enough that children who can barely read have installed Linux.
How incredibly empowering.
So, are you still worried that you won’t be smart enough to do it?
