How Old Is Too Old?

Years ago, I heard a comedian on TV say that he had recently become more aware of the “expiration dates” on different types of foods.
Knowing that Hostess Twinkies are comprised of many different types of chemicals, he had found the expiration date on a package of them.
All it said was, “Buddy, you should live so long.”
Do you automatically throw away food that’s past its expiration date, or do you judge it by its look, smell or taste instead?
Experts say that, for properly stored food, the latter approach is a lot smarter — and could save you a lot of money.
