Holiday Traditions

March 31st, 2010 by ComputerBob

This coming Sunday will be Easter, the most significant holiday of the Christian faith. Without Easter, Christmas would be meaningless.

Yet, despite Easter’s already important status, humans have always felt the need to try to artificially make it seem more important, by wrapping it in “Easter traditions” that were originally filled with religious symbolism.

Except that those traditions are now repeated year after year, despite the fact that most people have long forgotten (or never knew) the underlying symbolism that justified their existence.

In fact, as comedian Jim Gaffigan points out, if you strip away all of the hype and marketing that surrounds them, many of our holiday traditions are pretty silly.
