Happy Easter - 2009

April 12th, 2009 by ComputerBob

If you look up the word “Easter” at Dictionary.com, the very first definition that it displays, says the following: “an annual Christian festival in commemoration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, observed on the first Sunday after the first full moon after the vernal equinox, as calculated according to tables based in Western churches on the Gregorian calendar and in Orthodox churches on the Julian calendar.”

While that definition is technically correct, I think that the true meaning of Easter for people of faith gets lost in its emphasis on the scheduling of the Easter Sunday date each year.

I’ve said it before, and it still holds true: To me, Easter is the most important Christian holiday. If Christ hadn’t risen from the dead, then His birth (and death) would have had no more significance to the world than anyone else’s.

But Christ did rise from the dead.

And that makes all the difference in the world.

I don’t presume to judge anyone else’s relationship with God, but I wonder how many of us lose the true meaning of Easter in our emphasis on scheduling our busy Easter Sunday each year. Our Easter baskets, Easter family gatherings, Easter dinners, Easter hats and Easter clothing are all technically “celebrations” of Easter, but they can easily distract us away from reflecting on the true nature of our relationship with God.

It’s almost like we’re so busy planning a party for someone that we forget to invite them.

So, this Easter, please remember that “God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

Maybe this video will help.

I hope and pray that He’s alive in your life.

God bless you.

And Happy Easter.

During our second year of marriage, my hubby and I found ourselves out of college and laid-off. Neither of us could get jobs in our field. Indeed, neither one of us were able to even acquire full time jobs as the economy was bad and for the 1st time in my life-time I began hearing individuals talk about the homeless, food shelters, etc. As we struggled to make ends meet, with not one but 3 part time jobs cleaning offices (we got runs together as we only had 1 automobile and sped to three different locations all night long finishing up about 3 a.m.), I remember a brief period when matters got a bit “tense”. In the midst of all of this, my husband abruptly quietly asked me if I wanted a divorce and that stopped me in my tracks. I gulped and began to cry as he quickly reassured me that wasn’t what he wanted either but it was time for us to make a commitment. For almost 29 years (next month), this has signified that we have NO other choice. We are dedicated to this and thus we must continually bring our marriage under the protective cover of the very source of marriage itself, God!
