Google Not So Private 4
November 22nd, 2009 by ComputerBob
Regular readers of this Journal know that I am skeptical about Google’s increasing domination of the Internet, and concerned about how that domination will impact the privacy and security of its users’ data.
Thanks to regular Journal reader and friend, MALsPa, who called my attention to this article, which gives an arguably biased description of The Electronic Privacy Information Center’s formal complaint about Google to the US Federal Trade Commission.
That complaint claims — among other things — that Google advertises that its services are private and secure, while disclaiming any responsibility for privacy and security in its Terms of Service.
I really appreciate articles like that — not for their biased viewpoints, but for the types of much-needed discussions that they promote, as evidenced by the thoughtful readers’ comments that follow that particular article.
If you aren’t aware of Google’s history, as well as its many contributions to the Internet — some might say “tentacles into the Internet” — take a look at this short video.
Don’t blink or you’ll miss a year or two.
