Good News For Firefox Users

June 23rd, 2010 by ComputerBob

It’s a very, very significant improvement.

Google’s Chrome browser has had it since its first release.

But Firefox has never had it.

Until today, with the release of Firefox 3.6.4 for Windows and Linux.

It’s called “out-of-process plugins.” According to Mozilla, “Firefox 3.6.4 provides uninterrupted browsing for Windows and Linux users when there is a crash in the Adobe Flash, Apple Quicktime or Microsoft Silverlight plugins… If a plugin crashes or freezes, it will not affect the rest of Firefox. You will be able to reload the page to restart the plugin and try again.”

The new Firefox reportedly also includes several fixes for security and stability issues.

I upgraded my Linux systems to Firefox 3.6.4 this morning, and I highly recommend that all Firefox users do the same as soon as possible.
