I have no personal experience in dealing with celebrities, but my impression is that a few of them are very approachable to their fans, but most of them try to avoid having any personal contacts with their fans.
That’s why I was surprised to see that if you write to comedian/author/actor Steve Martin, he’ll take the time to personally write back to you.
