eBay Scammer On Ice

February 25th, 2010 by ComputerBob

Regular readers of this Journal know that, in the past several months, I found several great deals on my local Craigslist, and they were all cash deals, done face-to-face, with sellers who live near me.

Years ago, I occassionally bought items on the eBay auction site, where I would bid on an item and then wait for the seller to ship it to me. I didn’t have any bad experiences with eBay, but I stopped using it after I grew to hate PayPal, the payment escrow service that I used, back when most eBay sellers didn’t accept direct credit card payments.

Looking back, I can see that my dissatisfaction with PayPal was a blessing in disguise, because it got me to stop using eBay before it became filled with scammers and fraudsters. Since then, I’ve read many horror stories about eBay buyers never receving the items that they paid for, receiving broken or substituted items, or having bogus charges added to their credit cards by unscrupulous sellers.

But now, at least one eBay criminal — possibly the biggest of them all — is finally on his way to prison.

I think you may be surprised by the details of his case.
