Different Types Of Linux Users

June 12th, 2010 by ComputerBob

Regular readers know that I’ve been very, very happily using Linux full-time instead of Windows since July of 2006.

Way back in 2000, I grew disgusted at Windows’ long parade of security vulnerabilities — as well as all of the time, effort and expense that I constantly had to expend to try to protect my Windows computer from the thousands of types of malware that exploited those vulnerabilities.

And I was also unhappy with the way that each new version of Windows took away more and more of my rights to use my computer as I saw fit.

But it took me until 2006 to find a version of Linux that I was smart enough to successfully install and run instead of Windows.

Linux has gotten a lot easier to install and run since then. In fact, nowadays many popular Linux distros are much faster and easier to install than Windows.

So, over the years, Linux has changed for the better. And so have I.

I’m not the same type of user that I was when I first started using Linux.

But I recognize some of my traits in more than one of the very biased and “pidgeon-holing” descriptions offered by The Four Different Types of Linux Users

Do you see yourself as purely one of those types, as a combination of more than one type, or as a completely different type?
