Delkin 2GB CompactFlash Memory Card

August 21st, 2008 by ComputerBob

Three years ago, my favorite uncle bought me a new Canon PowerShot A75 digital camera for my birthday. I loved it so much that, a month later, I bought one for my wife for her birthday. Shortly after that, I bought her a 512MB CompactFlash memory card, to replace the paltry 32GB card that had come with the camera. That higher-capacity card cost $54, but it held about 300 full-resolution photos.

Since then, I’ve continued to use the 32MB memory card that came with my camera, and I’ve borrowed my wife’s 512MB card whenever I’ve needed to shoot more than the handful of high-res photos that fit onto my memory card.

But several days ago, when I got my camera back from having Canon repair it for free, I decided to finally buy a higher-capacity memory card for it.

I was very pleasantly surprised to learn that I could buy a 1GB CompactFlash memory card at my local Sam’s Club for only about $16 — that’s twice the size of my wife’s memory card for less than 1/3 of what we paid for hers 3 years ago.

But amazingly, I discovered that I could order a 2GB CompactFlash memory card from Sam’s Club online for the same price as buying a 1GB card at my local Sam’s Club, and they would ship it to me for free.

That’s 4 times the size of my wife’s memory card for less than 1/3 of what we paid for hers. And it’s 55x-speed memory, while her memory card is only 25x or 30x. For $10 more, I could have bought a 4GB CompactFlash memory card, but I didn’t do it, since I would have been perfectly happy to buy just another 512MB card, so the 2GB one that I bought is already way more memory than I’m ever going to need in that camera.

My new memory card arrived yesterday, and I already know that it works beautifully. Last night, I put my camera in “motor drive” mode — where it shoots about 3 shots every 2 seconds — held it at arm’s length, pointed it back toward me, moved it around slowly, and shot about 50 photos of Max sleeping on his side next to me on the sofa. Then I deleted all but the best 8 or 10 of them.

Sleepy Max.
