Dangerous Chinese Products

I wonder why the U.S. keeps importing dangerous junk from China.
Is it because the Chinese have bought so much U.S. debt that the U.S. is required to buy every cheap-but-deadly piece of junk that unscrupulous Chinese manufacturers want to sell us?
We’ve all heard about how Chinese manufacturers added dangerous chemicals to dog foods that were shipped to the U.S. a few years ago — chemicals that killed or endangered thousands of beloved household pets.
And how Chinese manufacturers ignored building standards and added dangerous chemicals to drywall that was used to build thousands of homes in the U.S. in the past few years — chemicals that have since leached out and caused hundreds of homeowners to become ill, and forced many to abandon their brand new homes.
And how Chinese manufacturers have repeatedly been caught adding lead to children’s toys that were sold to unsuspecting parents all over the U.S., putting millions of children at risk for serious illnesses and lifelong developmental disabilities.
There are probably lots of other examples — those are just the major ones that I remembered off the top of my head.
It seems to me that if “terrorists” were doing those same things, the U.S. government would be up in arms. Such behavior would be declared “an act of war” and everyone would be demanding that it stop.
But instead, it appears that the U.S. just keeps importing more and more Chinese products that are infused with whatever dangerous and deadly garbage the Chinese manufacturers choose to add to them. China doesn’t appear to be doing any oversight of its manufacturers, and the U.S. doesn’t appear to be doing much inspection of the many dangerous products that it imports from China.
Here’s the latest outrage: “Barred from using lead in children’s jewelry because of its toxicity, some Chinese manufacturers have been substituting the more dangerous heavy metal cadmium in sparkling charm bracelets and shiny pendants being sold throughout the United States…”

Seems like it usually works like this: Someone makes the stuff and exports it to the U.S. because someone buys it for resale here.
What part does American business play in all this?
How many of these people who actually import this dangerous stuff know about the dangers and ignore them, turning a blind eye?
It’s all about making a buck, and the Chinese aren’t the only ones who know how to play the game.
The Chinese are far from being the only ones who are flooding the U.S. with dangerous products.
http://www.recalls.gov, check it out. Many of the dangerous products are made right here in the good ol’ U. S. of A.
