Cure For Radiation Sickness
July 17th, 2009 by ComputerBob
On its surface, it looks like incredibly good news of a medical breakthrough.
For example, it would greatly accelerate progress in the quest for a cure for cancer.
But a safe, effective cure for radiation sickness could also shift the balance of political power around the world in possibly unpredictable ways.
And it could have at least one possible, deadly unintended consequence — it could reduce nations’ reluctance to use nuclear weapons against each other, thus increasing the likelihood of nuclear wars.
So, if it’s confirmed to work on humans, then — just as it has done with everything else in history — mankind will choose whether to use it to save lives or to take lives.
For good or for evil.
Call me cynical if you want, but I see myself as a realist: I’m betting that — just as has done with everything else in history — mankind will choose to use it for both.
