Conficker’s April Fools’ Joke

First of all, its name is “Conficker” — con-fick-er — don’t embarass yourself by calling it cornficker or even cornflicker.
Now that we’ve gotten that out of the way, the Windows Conficker worm — which affects only Windows computers — is reportedly scheduled to receive a dastardly update today, to supposedly make it even more evil and allow it to cause even more damage than it already has for the past several months — to Windows computers all over the world.
Why did I make sure to use the word “Windows” three separate times in that one sentence?
Because many major news sources have failed to tell the public that Conficker — along with hundreds of thousands of other computer worms, viruses, trojans and various other assorted malwares — only affects Windows PCs.
To those who run or administer Windows PCs, today is yet another one of those scary, hold-your-breath-and-hope-for-the-best-but prepare-for-the-worst days that have come along with alarming frequency for the past decade or so.
But, to those of us who run Linux instead of Windows, today is just another day.
