Computer At Home = Lower Test Scores

For the past couple of decades, there have been countless public, private and educational initiatives designed to provide computers and Internet access to children in their homes — especially disadvantaged children.

Each of those initiatives was developed under the assumption that if you increase children’s access to computers and the Internet in their homes, it would help close the wide gap that exists between the test scores of advantaged and disadvantaged children.

We had no reason to doubt that assumption.

“However, according to a new study by scholars at Duke University’s Sanford School of Public Policy, these efforts would actually widen the achievement gap in math and reading scores.”
