Chick Or Treat
October 31st, 2009 by ComputerBob
It’s Halloween, and I’ve got a bowl of Baby Ruth, 3 Musketeers and Butterfinger candy bars for tonight’s group of trick-or-treaters. Every year, it takes a little more than 60 minutes for pretty much the same 30 kids or so to come by, and usually Max and I sit out on the driveway to “ooh and ahh” over their costumes and give them each a candy bar (or 2 or 3 for each of the cutest little kids).
In a special promotion this past Monday, all over the U.S., KFC (AKA Kentucky Fried Chicken), gave away one piece of their new Kentucky Grilled Chicken to every customer who asked for it. If you didn’t already know about the deal, you wouldn’t have found any clues about it in your local KFC, so you had to have heard about it somewhere else if you wanted to get a free piece of grilled chicken.
My wife and I had read about it online several days beforehand, but had forgotten about it. Luckily, someone on Craigslist posted a reminder about it Monday morning.
So Monday afternoon, we got in the car and did some chick-or-treating. The KFC that’s 1.5 miles northeast of our house gave us each a grilled chicken breast.
Then we drove to the KFC that’s 1 mile west of our house, where they gave each of us two grilled chicken wings.
The KFC that’s 1.5 miles southeast of our house gave each of us a grilled chicken thigh.
Despite the fact that free chicken is the very best kind of chicken, I wasn’t very impressed with Kentucky Grilled Chicken. None of the pieces were anywhere near as tender, juicy or tasty as their fried Original Recipe counterparts. In fact, the grilled breasts were pretty dry, tough and flavorless.
To me, KFC’s Original Recipe fried chicken tastes like something that you couldn’t possibly make at home. In contrast, Kentucky Grilled Chicken tastes like something that someone did make at home.
Of course, grilled chicken is much healthier for you than fried chicken.
So my recommendation is that if you’re looking for the best-tasting, most tender, juiciest chicken, buy KFC’s Original Recipe fried chicken, but just don’t eat very much of it.
And if you’re looking for the healthiest chicken, buy some fresh chicken and grill it yourself.
Your grilled chicken will be just as good as KFC’s grilled chicken.
And you’ll save a whole lot of money.
Unless KFC starts giving theirs away again.
