Changing My Mind
December 13th, 2008 by ComputerBob
I’m always fascinated by how life’s experiences constantly change my perceptions. Like years ago, after I bought an old red Volkswagen Beetle, I suddenly noticed hundreds of other Volkswagen Beetles on the road. Or the day that I got out of the hospital after my stroke, I suddenly began to notice that a lot of people eat very poorly.
I’ve mentioned several times before that I work as a volunteer at a domestic violence center, and that I’ve found it to be extremely fulfilling work. Yesterday, I realized that my volunteer work had altered my thinking as I drove around in the center’s van, picking up and delivering some tables for a Christmas party, while listening to Christmas music on the radio.
When the song, Do You Hear What I Hear? came on, and I heard the lyrics, “A child, a child shivers in the cold. Let us bring Him silver and gold,” I immediately thought to myself, “No! Let us bring him warm blankets and diapers! And get His mother and father into a parenting class!”
