But Can She Type? Yes!

When I was in seventh grade, I was required to take a year-long typing course. I liked the folksy typing teacher, but I hated the course, which was taught completely on manual typewriters (the kind whose keys would jam at the slightest provocation).
Looking back, however, I’m glad that typing was a required course, because it taught me the basics of a very important skill — although I had to tear off the last 1/3 page off the bottom of my last timed typing test before I turned it in, in order to remove the errors that would have prevented me from reaching the course’s 30wpm requirement.
I’ve used my typing skills thousands of times since then — at school, at work, and when I write each of these daily Journal entries.
The last time I checked, a few years ago, I could type a little over 60wpm on a computer keyboard.
That’s the same speed that one of my classmates — a small, thin girl — achieved in my seventh grade typing class.
That was a very impressive speed back then — especially on a manual typewriter.
But I’m even more impressed by the little girl who can type 119 words per minute.
