Bird Feeders 2

October 17th, 2009 by ComputerBob

I’ve mentioned here before that my wife and I keep an arrangement of several bird feeders in our back yard, outside of our Florida room.

Our feeders are an important stop for several types of birds every day, including groups of up to 34 large, green monk parakeets at a time. We really enjoy watching their antics.

We started with only two small, cheap feeders, but over the past few years, we’ve evolved to where we now have five feeders, including three large, round, metal ones that can each feed up to eight birds at a time.

But today, we saw something we hadn’t seen before: A little, yellow, pet parakeet — no doubt a recent escapee from someone’s home — has joined one of the flocks of about a dozen wild monk parakeets.

The larger birds don’t seem to be bothered by him (or her) at all, and he (or she) doesn’t seem to be intimidated by them at all.

Here’s are three photos that show our five feeders; the yellow parakeet, eating alongside some monk parakeets; and the yellow parakeet, having an argument with one of the monk parakeets:

The yellow parakeet. You're too little. No, you're too big.
