Big Brother Sees Your License Plates

In an effort to catch car thieves, some police departments recently began using a new type of car-mounted camera that can scan and check thousands of car license plates per day.
Now it turns out that they’re using the cameras to catch much more than car thieves.
Do you think this is a good idea that will help protect innocent citizens, or is it a slippery slope that will result in the trampling of innocent citizens’ rights?
