Being Thankful

November 26th, 2009 by ComputerBob

What does Thanksgiving Day mean to you?

Unless you’re from the U.S., it probably means nothing to you.

But In the U.S., Thanksgiving Day began almost 400 years ago, as a day for the country’s early white settlers to share a communal meal and thank God for enabling them to survive another year.

Unfortunately, to many people, Thanksgiving Day has nothing to do with thanking God any more.

Or even being thankful in general.

It’s all about the big meal.

And the parades.

And the football games.

And the start of the Christmas (AKA “holiday”) shopping season.

Did you know that, last night, people were already camping outside of stores in anticipation of tomorrow’s Black Friday sales?

Instead of being thankful for everything that we have, many of us are concentrating on getting more and more.

Although the economy is extremely tight, I hope and pray that your Thanksgiving Day is joyful.

And that we’ll all remember to thank God for enabling us to survive another year.
