AutoRun Patch For XP - Finally!
March 5th, 2009 by ComputerBob
By now, you’ve undoubtedly seen lots of stories about the Conficker worm that has been exploiting holes in Windows’ security and infecting millions of Windows computers all over the world for the past several months.
They’re exactly the kind of stories that remind me just how glad I am to be running Linux full-time instead of Windows.
Well, maybe — just maybe — we’re going to start seeing fewer stories about Conficker. Here’s why:
“Nearly 18 months after it was discovered, Microsoft has finally fixed a hole in the AutoRun function of older Windows versions that allowed viruses to spread via external storage devices.
While it’s good to know Microsoft is finally listening to the complaints of the Windows community, the company’s delay in applying important patches put our systems at risk unnecessarily.”
Windows — Use it at your own risk.
