Another Trap For Windows Users
September 5th, 2008 by ComputerBob
As a Linux user since July of 2006, I never have to worry one bit about my PC’s security — it was basically locked down and secure “out-of-the-box.”
In contrast, if you still use Microsoft Windows, then you have to deal with with the long list of antivirus, anti-trojan, anti-rootkit, anti-spam, anti-trojan, anti-malware applications that have to be repeatedly run and continuously updated in order to try to maintain any semblance of security on your computer.
But, unless you’re pretty tech savvy, you may not be aware of all of the social engineering tricks that the bad guys constantly use to try to fool you into infecting your computer with their malicious software.
One of them is a very old trick, but it apparently still works — malware disguised as antivirus software.
