Another Reason To Avoid Newark
October 20th, 2008 by ComputerBob
Years ago, friends of mine in northwest Ohio took a trip to Florida. In its infinite wisdom, the budget airline that they chose routed both their outgoing and homecoming flights through Newark, New Jersey.
If you look at a map of the U.S. and draw a line from the northwest corner of Ohio to central Florida, you’ll instantly see the flaw in that logic.
The Newark airport was experiencing severe winter weather on both of the nights that they were there, and they were required to deplane out on the runway and walk across the tarmac in the dark, through a blizzard, to get to their connecting flights.
If that’s not enough reason to avoid Newark, now there’s more: One of the Newark airport’s security screeners has admitted that, for more than a year, he has been stealing cell phones, cameras, laptop computers, camcorders, jewelry and other expensive items from passengers’ luggage — and selling them on eBay.
I’m just relieved that our luggage is going to be safe, now that they caught the one and only airport security person in the country who has ever done that.
